Audio Assignment RAW bear hunt Readers Theater "Bear Hunt Story Time" The audio recording that I created is a readers theater told by children. I though that this would be an application that teachers could use in the classroom. I truly believe that subjects should be taught and learnt in a cross curricular manner. In this case English language arts, arts education in drama and music is incorporated within one project. The materials used in the recording was Audacity, laptop built in microphone, percussion instruments, and a piano. The raw bear recording was taken by asking my daughter Nixie to recall and tell a group sing along song "Going on a bear hunt." My daughter Petra hopped on the piano to give some additional background music. It became very evident that working with young children (K-2) thay are super excited to be recorded and a script is not very useful for them. Audacity has a lot going for it. Using free software is great especially when it is a quality tool that doesn't lead you into additional purchases. I found that audacity is easy to use and has simple features. I recall using this program in a guitar class that I taught. I would have students record themselves playing. Before I knew it they would have multiple tracks with effects built in. The program allowed them to bring their music to a different medium and gave them an opportunity to publish a composition. The training was a nice addition to follow. I just got into listening to podcasts so it was interesting to see how this program could be used to develop one. The big take away that I gained from the training was how to use compression to adjust volume. I plan on recording my children telling a story and foresee this being a very useful tool. I think using audacity could be used in a classroom to record and create reader theater with students. Olver and out.

Images for Assignment 2 The below photo is of a Dogwood tree at Candle Lake. I used two layers to edit this photo. One layer gray and has the leaves erased allowing the layer below to show the red leaves. Dogwood Original This photo is of the meadows at Little Red park. the photo has been cropped to emphasize the horizon and it has also been edited using colour balance. Trail Riding Original Nixie poses for a photo at the beach. This photo has been edited using the filter tool sharpen and colour balance to make small increases of the red and yellow in the photo. Fall Reflection Original This carrot caught my eye gardening this fall. It is a photo of two carrots that grew around each other. I added a coloured text layer to the photo to have a little fun with the image. Mamma Carrot Original This image reminds me of a punk rock poster. I used the threshold levels to adjust to a dynamic black and white image. Punk Rock-in ...

Gimp First Impressions To have a free photo software available for personal use is great and to have it also available for school use is excellent. The last decent photo editing software I used with students was Corel photo, which was a purchase suite for the school division. Corel at that time used the Photoshop processes and tools. Gimp looks comparable but without the price and expiry date that Corel must have had. I have also used an online photo editors with elementary art classes. We soon found this online freeware program are limited. One issue was pictures could not be saved and continued. So far Gimp looks to be a promising new photo editor option. A real bonus for this program is that not only is it free but it is also free of copyright infringements. This is the two big questions administration and IT would want to know before downloading Gimp to their system. Another quest...
